Frequently Asked Questions regarding student engagement

I have an idea for a student initiative. How can I find out if there is already something similar at UZH?

To find out whether your idea or a similar association already exists at UZH, we recommend that you browse our StudOrg-List. In addition to a simple filter function that allows you to search by topic, you will also find all the websites and contact information of the respective associations.

I have an idea for an initiative at UZH, who should I contact first?

To launch a new student initiative at UZH, you can first contact the VSUZH Impulsfabrik, the centre for student engagement at the University of Zurich. The Impulsfabrik can advise you on the development of your idea and show you the prospects of your idea and any associated next steps, as well as rights and obligationsfor UZH associations at.

What are the most important criteria to consider when founding a new association?

The association should enrich university life (studies, teaching, research, culture) and complement the existing range of associations and services. The members of the association should primarily be students of one of the five Zurich universities (UZH, ETHZ, ZHAW, ZHdK, PHZH). The association should be open to all students of the above-mentioned universities.

Who can join an association accredited at UZH?

In principle, all students of the five Zurich universities (UZH, ETHZ, ZHAW, ZHdK, PHZH) can join a student association accredited at the UZH.

What do we have to pay special attention to when writing the statutes of an association accredited at the UZH?

On the one hand, the statutes must state that the active members (with voting rights) of a student association should be students of the UZH and, if applicable, of the four other Zurich universities (ETHZ, ZHAW, ZHdK, PHZH). Secondly, it should be stated that members of the association who are excluded by the board have the right to challenge the board's decision before the general assembly. As a guide for your new association, we recommend the sample statutes on the President's Services homepage.

We just founded an association and would now like to have it accredited at the UZH. What are the first steps?

The VSUZH Impulsfabrik team (impulsfabrik@vsuzh.ch) is looking forward to welcoming your new initiative at UZH. In a first meeting you can introduce yourself as an association and the Impulsfabrik will introduce you to the association ecosystem of the UZH. Once you have fulfilled all formal requirements, with the support of the Impulsfabrik, the Impulsfabrik will forward you to the President's Services for the accreditation process.

We have founded an association outside UZH and now want to take it to UZH. How do we go about this?

In principle, nothing stands in the way of the association, as long as it meets the criteria for an accredited association at UZH. Any questions can be clarified in writing by email or in a conversation with the VSUZH Impulsfabrik.

What is the patronage of the VSUZH Impulsfabrik?

If an initiative or an association with a high level of commitment wants to carry out a project at UZH at short notice, but is not yet officially accredited at UZH, the Impulsfabrik can issue an interim patronage. This enables the initiative to access certain UZH services, similar to an accredited association. The initiative remains in close contact with the Impulsfabrik for the duration of the patronage.

To whom can my association submit an application for financial support at the university?

For limited support, a student association can submit an application to the President's Services. Another possibility is offered by the Association of Students of the University of Zurich (VSUZH), which also supports accredited student organisations within certain limits.

My association wants to reserve a room for an event at UZH, how do we proceed?

Room bookings can be made on the UZH booking tool

My association wants to send a newsletter to UZH students, how do we proceed?

Email dispatches can be requested via the application form at the President's Services

My association wants to put up a poster for a project or event at UZH, how do we proceed?

You need to fill in the relevant application form (in german) and send it to the President's Services (rektoratsdienst@del.uzh.ch), stating the desired duration and location of the poster (Zentrum and Oerlikon max. 1 week, Irchel max. 2 weeks). Due to the high demand, it is recommended to submit the application form at least two weeks in advance.

What advertising options do student associations have at UZH?

In addition to posters and email dispatches, it is possible to advertise on the information screens (IBIS) that are common on campus. If you are looking for direct contact with students, you can apply (german form) to the President's Services for a stand on campus.
